November Mentor Monthly

November Focus: Giving Thanks

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”

1 Chronicles 16:34

Week One

Remembering the good things in life brings so much joy! Share with your mentee what you are thankful for. This could be your family, your job, even being thankful for your friendship with your mentee. Encourage your mentee to share something that they are thankful for!

Week Two

Two versions: A Nutritious Meal  OR  Berly’s Gateway to Childhood Obesity

Version 1 is to invite your mentee on a quick shopping trip. Explain to them what you usually buy on a weekly basis at the grocery. This could be things like milk, eggs, and bread. Grab a pen and paper to create a list. Explain what you need to make a well-rounded meal; a meat, some vegetables, and a whole grain. Make the trip fun by seeing how fast you guys can get everything! Then you can make the dish with your mentee and family! Express your thankfulness to God with your mentee for the ability to buy groceries and fix a healthy meal.

Version 2 (the Berly version) is much quicker and more realistic according to her.  She challenges you to give your mentee a $5 bill to buy ingredients to make cookies. There are many ways that they can go about this—buying box mix, cookie dough, or the ingredients to make cookies from scratch. This is a fun way to show your mentee the value of money and how far a dollar can stretch!

Week Three

WE ARE THANKFUL FOR YOU!! Please join us this week at our Annual Thanksgiving Feast! It will be a night of great fun and you will have the chance to meet other MentorKids Kentucky Family members! We will have food and chances to win a prize. This will be such a wonderful time for the entire family!

Week Four

Thanksgiving week! Time for family, food, and giving thanks! Invite your mentee to join in a family tradition this Thanksgiving. During your time with your mentee explain again all the things that you were thankful for during the first week. If you have thought of more things to be thankful for, share those with your mentee too.  Ask them if there is anything else that they are thankful for.
