October Focus: It’s FALL

“For all have sinned and FALL short of the glory of God”

Romans 3:23

Week One

It is finally FALL! Time for cozy sweatshirts, apple cider, and everything pumpkin spice! Leaves are changing and beginning to fall off the trees. Fall provides a great opportunity to take your mentee on a walk in one of the parks. Legion, Panther Creek, and Yellow Creek Park all have some beautiful trees to see. Show your mentee how peaceful walking through the trees and watching the leaves fall can be. Challenge them to stay quiet for one minute and just take in their surroundings. It may be harder to do than you think!

Week Two

This week your mentee is on Fall Break! If you and your mentee are staying in town this week, invite them to go to the pumpkin patch with you and your family. Pick out some pumpkins and take them home to carve together. Below, as a family, pick out a creative pumpkin design. Here is the link if you want to find more designs. https://www.dltk-holidays.com/halloween/mpatterns.htm

Week Three

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23

Talk to your mentee about a time when you fell short. Maybe you and your friend were having a disagreement and you said something very hurtful to them. Did you apologize? Did your friend show you grace by completely forgiving you?

Remember this: Your mentee will fall short; we all do. Show them grace because God has shown grace to you by guiding them with love and compassion.

Week Four

This week we will have a Cash for Trash Scavenger Hunt! Bring your mentee and family on Saturday, October 26 at 9am till 11am. We will post where the Scavenger Hunt is happening on our Facebook page. This is not only a great way to help MentorKids Kentucky raise money but is also a fun experience because you never know what you will find on the side of the road.

Week Five

Share the gift of serving with your mentee. Invite your family and your mentee to rake the leaves at an elderly person’s house in your neighborhood or a person who is in need at your church. After, celebrate with your mentee and family by enjoying hot apple cider, and discuss the impact that the act of service had on that person.
