August Mentor Monthly

August Focus: New!

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Lamentations 3:22-24

Week One

School is starting next week! This is a great time to encourage your mentee to make good decisions right out of the gate by starting this school year off on the right foot. Talk to your mentee about the importance of making good decisions and being kind to others. This would be a great opportunity to share a story from your youth about a situation that you would now handle differently. For example, you regret that you were disrespectful to your teachers or picked on another student.

Week Two

Give your mentee an encouraging note (doesn’t have to be long) for the first day of school. Remind them of all their great qualities and share with them how hopeful you are for others to see these same qualities in them.

Week Three

Ask your mentee how their first week of school was. If they did anything that potentially put them on a bad course for the rest of the year. Quickly explain how they can still apologize and make the rest of the year great.  Share the freedom found by doing so.

Week Four

Challenge your mentee to make a new friend this week!

Week Five

Share a personal story about a person that you did not like or that you had an argument with, in the past. Ask your mentee if there is someone like that in their life. This could be a past teacher or another student. Remind your mentee of the importance of forgiveness and help them figure out a way to make amends with that person.
