MentorKids Kentucky exists to love children from single-parent and non-traditional households. We are able to do this by providing the child with an adult Christian mentor to come alongside and help them persevere through the trials of life, by building their character and offering them hope for the future.
Become A Mentor
A Mentor with MentorKids KY is a caring, responsible, Christian adult volunteer who serves as a trusted friend, support, and guide to a child in our community for a period of at least one year. The mentor will come alongside the child to help them persevere through the trials of life, by building their character and offering them hope for the future.
Our One-to-One Mentoring program matches adults with youth from the community who are 6 to 14 years old from single-parent and non-traditional households. According to the 2015 County Health Rankings for Daviess County, 34% of households are headed by a single parent. This percentage has increased 3% since the 2013 report of 31% of households.
What We Believe.
We believe in the power of consistent relationships grounded in the love of Jesus Christ. Just as Christ came to serve and seek the lost, we understand our calling and that of our mentors to be the same.
What We Do.
MentorKids Kentucky addresses many of the negative effects of children growing up in single-parent and non-traditional homes. According to a study done by Princeton University, children growing up in single-parent homes have an increased risk of experiencing cognitive, social, and emotional problems (2016 The Trustees of Princeton University).
Mentoring organizations, through the years, have demonstrated that matching an adult volunteer with an at-risk child, over a consistent basis of meeting three times a month for a year, is a proven method for decreasing the negative effects of being raised in a single-parent or non-traditional household.
Our Christ centered mentoring program:
- Promotes positive character development and social responsibility to the children we serve
- Connects with single-parent and non-traditional households to serve as an additional resource in times of need
- Partners with local schools and churches to better impact our community
- Changes lives by weaving the Gospel into mentoring
“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” (James 1:27)
